Leon was born in the farm town of Narewka before he moved to the city of Krakow with his father. He was sent to a labor camp in Plaszow before returning to Krakow to work for Schindler in his factory. When Schindler's factory moved to Czechoslovakia, Leon's train was routed to a different labor camp in Gross-Rosen. Schindler located him and brought him back to Brunnlitz, where he was finally freed by the Soviets.
